The founders of Balkan International Basketball League (BIBL) Shay Shtriks and Robert Gergov attended the Final Four of FIBA Eurocup in Cyprus over the weekend. They had a opportunity to meet the president of FIBA Europe George Vassilakopoulos and General secretary Nar Zanolin and talked about the upcoming project.
Besides the managing board of FIBA Europe Shtriks and Gergov also met with all basketball federations, futured members of the Balkan League.
From May 9 to 10 Sofia will be the host of the first working meeting of basketball federations from Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Romania and Serbia. Special invitations will be send to Kosta Iliev, Sports Director of FIBA Europe and Nar Zanolin, General Secretary of FIBA Europe to attend the meeting in Sofia.
All five federations will receive applications and eventually filled them out with proposals of clubs from respective country to participate in the league. All five countries will have two participants for the following season as they will be divided in two groups for the preliminary round of the competition.
The draw for the Balkan League is set for early June while the competition is planned to start in October this year.
